Trump says Ukraine needs a new leader as the US buys Russian diesel

Donald Trump suggested Ukraine should choose "a new leader who can make a deal". Earlier the US agreed diesel deliveries with Russia and temporarily suspended sanctions on Russian energy. On Saturday a Russian attack on Zaporizhzhia killed at least 20 people.

Speaking outside the White House on Saturday, Trump said: "I suggest they get a new leader who can make a deal." He was talking about Ukraine and its president, Volodymyr Zelensky.

Diesel from Russia

On Friday the US and Russia agreed on diesel deliveries. According to CBS and AP, Russia will deliver more than 300,000 tonnes immediately, 500,000 tonnes in November, then 1 million tonnes and about 3 million more. The Treasury is temporarily suspending sanctions on Russian energy. Reuters says a gallon of diesel in the US costs USD 6.28 on average, about 70% more than before the US-Israeli war with Iran.

"Gifts for Putin will bring neither peace nor any benefit to the civilised world," Zelensky replied.

Attack on Zaporizhzhia and an alert in Poland

On Saturday Russia dropped five glide bombs on Zaporizhzhia, killing at least 20 people, including three children, and injuring 18. Russian attacks have killed more than 60 people in four days. On Saturday evening Poland scrambled military jets and the airports in Lublin and Rzeszów halted traffic. The Operational Command recorded no violation of Polish airspace.
