Shops are closed today. The next trading Sunday is 6 December, and the clocks go back in two weeks
Shops are closed on 11 October. Three trading Sundays are left this year: 6, 13 and 20 December. On the night of 24–25 October the clocks go back to winter time.
Poland's Sunday trading ban comes from a law of 10 January 2018. There are only eight trading Sundays in 2026. The next one is not until 6 December, followed by 13 and 20 December, before Christmas.
Where you can shop
The ban does not cover petrol stations, pharmacies and small shops where the owner serves customers personally, among others. That is why some neighbourhood shops are open on non-trading Sundays while supermarkets and malls are closed.
Clocks go back in two weeks
On the night of Saturday 24 to Sunday 25 October Poland returns to winter time. At 3am the clocks go back to 2am, giving an extra hour of sleep. The change always falls on the last Sunday of October. The EU has still not decided to scrap the clock change, despite years of debate.
What it means in practice
After the change mornings will be lighter, but it will get dark an hour earlier. Phones and computers adjust automatically; wall clocks, ovens and older cars need changing by hand. It is also worth checking the times of night trains and buses.
