Poland must overturn a 0–1 deficit against Belgium: World Cup play-off second leg on Tuesday in Gdańsk
Poland's women lost 1–0 to Belgium in Leuven in the first leg of their World Cup play-off. On Tuesday at 18:00 in Gdańsk they need a win to progress.
In Leuven on Friday Dhont scored the only goal in first-half stoppage time, assisted by Wullaert. The crowd was 6,238. In the 33rd minute Kinga Seweryn saved a penalty from Wullaert, and in the 57th Belgian goalkeeper Seynhaeve stopped Ewa Pajor's spot kick. Seweryn, standing in for the injured Kinga Szemik, made 10 saves in all.
Squad changes
Szemik and Cyraniak are out injured. Radkiewicz and Walentowicz have been called up. "We lost this match, but I'm glad my performance kept the team in the tie. It's only a one-goal deficit," Seweryn said. Before the tie, coach Nina Patalon expected two very even games that could be decided by details.
What is at stake
The winners play Ireland or Kazakhstan in November and December. Seven play-off winners qualify directly for the World Cup, and the eighth goes into an intercontinental play-off in February 2027. The second leg in Gdańsk is on Tuesday at 18:00, live on TVP Sport.
