Russian bomb hits buses in Kramatorsk, killing at least 33
On Thursday morning a Russian bomb hit two intercity buses in Kramatorsk in the Donetsk region. At least 33 people were killed.
The strike happened on Thursday 8 October at around 10:00 local time. Ukraine's State Emergency Service said 18 people were injured. Donetsk regional governor Vadym Filashkin put the number of injured at 22. Kramatorsk lies in the part of the Donetsk region controlled by Ukraine.
A glide bomb
The Donetsk regional prosecutor's office said the weapon was probably a UMPB D-30SN guided glide bomb. Such bombs are dropped from aircraft and glide to their target. Prosecutors have opened a war crimes investigation. Public transport in Kramatorsk and Sloviansk has been suspended.
“The Russians are targeting civilians. For them, a bus full of passengers is an attractive target,” Filashkin said.
Reactions
Christian Wigand of the European Commission said that deliberate attacks on civilians and civilian objects are war crimes. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said: “This strike will not go without our response.”
More victims
