Wave of hoax bomb threats in Świętokrzyskie, more than 1,900 evacuated

On Tuesday bomb alerts were raised at more than 60 sites in the Świętokrzyskie region of Poland. No explosives were found anywhere.

Schools hit hardest

Pupils and teachers were affected most. In Kielce county 9 schools were evacuated, with 1,520 people.

Police checked every site and found no explosives anywhere. All the threats turned out to be hoaxes.

Emergency services must always take such threats seriously, even when they look like a prank. That is why every one ends with an evacuation and a search of the building.

Who is behind it

Investigators are trying to establish who sent the threats. In recent years, similar waves of alerts at Polish schools and public offices have often been triggered by mass emails.

Raising a false alarm carries a sentence of up to 8 years in prison.
