The Citroën 2CV returns as an EV, priced around €15,000 and on sale in 2028

Citroën unveiled an electric 2CV concept ahead of the Paris Motor Show. It should cost under €15,000 without subsidies and will be built in Italy. The photo shows an original 2CV from 1950.

Citroën showed the electric 2CV concept on 11 October, the day before the Paris show opened. The target price is about €15,000, below that level without government subsidies. Sales should start in 2028, and the car will be built at Stellantis's plant in Pomigliano d'Arco, Italy. It is meant to weigh about 1,000 kg. Battery capacity, range and power have not been announced.

No nostalgia, no screens

"We are not doing this out of nostalgia," Citroën CEO Xavier Chardon said in June. He also said the brand "will not follow the trend of putting screens everywhere, as some Chinese manufacturers do". The original 2CV, known in Poland as the "duck", was built for 42 years, until 1990. The photo shows a 1950 example.

The Paris show

The Paris Motor Show opens on 12 October with a press day and welcomes visitors on 13–18 October at Porte de Versailles. Stellantis is bringing more than 60 cars, including 9 concepts, on 5,340 square metres. About 20 Chinese brands will attend, twice as many as in 2024.
