Raków lose 1–4 to GKS Katowice and stay bottom of the Ekstraklasa

Raków Częstochowa lost 1–4 to GKS Katowice on Friday in round 10 of the Ekstraklasa. It was 1–1 at half-time, and the visitors scored three times after the break.

Both first-half goals came within three minutes of each other. Szkurin scored in the 34th minute and Makuch in the 37th, leaving the score at 1–1 at the break.

In the 48th minute Bartosz Nowak converted a penalty to make it 1–2. The penalty was awarded by referee Damian Kos. Gol24 described the decision as controversial.

Mateusz Kowalczyk made it 1–3 in the 57th minute. Raków coach Tomasz Kaczmarek made three substitutions in the 61st minute, but his side could not get back into the game. In stoppage time (90+1) Borja Galan sealed the 1–4 result.

A record that usually means relegation

Raków have 3 points from 10 games and sit 18th, at the bottom of the table. It was their 9th league defeat. Stolica Sportu notes that, in the history of the Ekstraklasa, this record after 10 games has almost always ended in relegation. GKS Katowice, coached by Rafał Górak, now have 15 points.

The weekend in the Ekstraklasa

Also on Friday, Wieczysta Kraków beat Wisła Płock 3–0. Piazon scored in the 34th minute and Semedo added two, in the 68th minute and in stoppage time. The third goal followed an error by goalkeeper Rafał Leszczyński.

On Saturday Cracovia play Zagłębie (14:45), Śląsk face Lech (17:30) and Jagiellonia host Górnik (20:15). On Sunday at 20:15 Legia host Wisła Kraków.
