The Witcher 3 Remastered sets a Steam record; patch 5.01 fixes washed-out colours

120,975 people played The Witcher 3 Remastered at the same time, the game's all-time Steam record. CD Projekt RED has released patch 5.01, which improves the image and fixes bugs reported by players.

The Witcher 3 Remastered launched on 29 September as a free upgrade for owners on Steam, GOG, the Epic Games Store, PS5 and Xbox, and for Switch owners on Switch 2. That day, according to SteamDB, 120,975 people were playing at once. The previous record of 103,329 was set in January 2020, after the Netflix series premiered. CD Projekt RED said that more witchers are now walking the Path across the Continent than ever before.

What patch 5.01 changes

Players complained about washed-out colours. Patch 5.01, about 8.5 GB on PC and 5.5 GB on consoles, improves the image. On consoles it adds options to turn off Bloom, Light Shafts and Depth of Field. It also fixes, among other things, settings resetting on PS5 and voiceover that was too quiet. "It honestly looks like a proper remaster now," one player wrote.

What's next

An update improving image sharpness on Switch 2 is in the works. The Songs of the Past expansion is due in 2027.
