Wasick fastest again over 50 m for eighth straight World Cup win
Katarzyna Wasick won the 50 m freestyle at the World Cup meet in Tashkent in 23.63 s. It is her eighth consecutive win in the event on the World Cup circuit.
The AZS AWF Katowice swimmer finished ahead of Canada's Taylor Ruck, who clocked 23.68 s. Daria Klepikova was third in 23.94 s. The results were published on Thursday evening.
A tiny margin
The gap between the Pole and Ruck was just 0.05 s, less than a tenth of a second. Klepikova finished 0.31 s behind the winner and 0.26 s behind the Canadian.
In the 50 m freestyle, races are decided by hundredths of a second. Wasick has been a regular winner over the distance at World Cup meets for several seasons.
The streak goes on
Tashkent was Wasick's eighth consecutive World Cup win in the event. Nobody has beaten her over the distance on the circuit in her last eight races. In both 2024 and 2025 she won all three of her 50 m freestyle races in the World Cup.
Astana next week
The last meet of this year's World Cup season takes place in Astana next week. If Wasick wins the 50 m freestyle again, she will complete a clean sweep in the event for the third season in a row.
