WIG20 gains 2.48% this week. Energy stocks lead Friday's session

The Warsaw Stock Exchange ended the week higher. On Friday energy and commodity stocks rose the most, and turnover was the highest of the week.

A week earlier, on 2 October, the WIG20 closed at 4,084.31 points and the WIG at 154,318.22 points. Based on closing prices, the WIG20 gained 2.48% this week and the WIG 2.32%. On Tuesday 6 October both indices posted record closes: the WIG at 159,012.30 points and the WIG20 at 4,222.36 points. Prices fell on Wednesday and Thursday.

Friday in the green

On Friday the WIG20 and the WIG both rose 1.37%. The mid-cap mWIG40 gained 1.58% to 10,651.44 points, and the small-cap sWIG80 rose 0.43% to 30,795.21 points. Shares in 196 companies rose and 129 fell. Turnover reached PLN 3.28bn, the highest of the week.

Energy and commodities lead

JSW (+6.44%), PGE (+6.23%), KGHM (+5.68%) and Tauron (+4.60%) rose the most. The WIG-Energia index gained 4.8% and set new records. Orlen rose 2.5%, its fifth gain in a row. CD Projekt shares climbed 4.16%. The company's co-CEO Michał Nowakowski confirmed on X that Paramount Pictures is working on a film set in the Cyberpunk universe. The series “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2” arrives on Netflix on 20 October.

Banks weaker

Kruk fell the most, by 7.72%. PKO BP (−0.85%) and Pekao (−0.72%) also lost ground. According to the NBP, the banking sector's net profit for the first eight months of 2026 was PLN 29.3bn, down 11.9% year on year. On Thursday 15 October GUS will publish detailed September CPI inflation data.
