Poland lose 0–1 to Belgium in Women's World Cup play-off first leg
Poland's women lost 0–1 to Belgium in Leuven in the first leg of the first round of the 2027 World Cup play-offs. Elena Dhont scored the only goal in first-half stoppage time.
The match in Leuven was the first of the two legs of the tie. It kicked off on Friday at 20:15. Kinga Seweryn started in goal for Poland in place of the injured Kinga Szemik.
Seweryn saves a penalty
In the 33rd minute Seweryn saved a penalty from Tessa Wullaert. Polsat Sport credited her with “10 successful saves” in the match. After that save the score stayed 0–0 until first-half stoppage time.
Belgium took the lead in first-half stoppage time. Three minutes into stoppage time (45+3), Elena Dhont scored from a Wullaert assist.
Pajor misses from the spot
Poland were awarded a penalty in the 57th minute, but Ewa Pajor's kick was saved by Lowiese Seynhaeve. Both penalties in the match were given after VAR reviews.
Return leg in Gdańsk
After the first leg Poland trail by one goal. Nina Patalon's side play the return leg on Tuesday 13 October at 18:00 at Polsat Plus Arena Gdańsk.
The winner of the tie will go on to face Ireland or Kazakhstan. Ireland won the first leg of that tie 8–0.
