Thursday's fuel price caps: all fuels slightly cheaper

On Thursday 8 October a litre of Pb95 petrol may cost at most 6.83 zł, Pb98 7.71 zł and diesel 7.74 zł. That is a few groszy less than on Wednesday.

The caps were announced on Wednesday by the energy minister.

A few groszy down

Wednesday's caps were 6.86 zł for Pb95, 7.74 zł for Pb98 and 7.80 zł for diesel. Petrol is therefore 3 groszy a litre cheaper and diesel 6 groszy cheaper. It is a change of direction after the start of the week, when the cap on petrol rose day after day.

Despite Thursday's cut, petrol is still dearer than when the CPN package began. From 3 to 5 October the cap for Pb95 was 6.73 zł, 10 groszy less than today.

What it means for a full tank

At the capped prices, 50 litres of diesel costs 3 zł less than on Wednesday, and 50 litres of Pb95 1.50 zł less. Stations may sell fuel for less than the cap, but not for more.

Oil still above $100

The caps are based on wholesale prices and station operating costs. Wholesale prices depend above all on crude oil, which remains expensive: a barrel of Brent costs more than $100. As long as tankers are being attacked in the Strait of Hormuz, pump price caps may swing from day to day.

The CPN package, with VAT at 8% instead of 23% and lower excise duty, runs until 31 December 2026. The energy minister sets maximum prices for each day.
