Lewandowski assist as Chicago Fire beat the leaders 3–1
Robert Lewandowski came off the bench in the 76th minute and set up Haile-Selassie's goal in the 88th. Chicago Fire beat Vancouver Whitecaps 3–1.
Robert Lewandowski needed only 12 minutes to make his mark against one of the league's strongest teams.
A win over the leaders
The win carries some weight, because Vancouver Whitecaps lead the MLS Western Conference. Chicago Fire play in the Eastern Conference, so the two teams are competing for play-off places in separate tables.
Lewandowski in America
Lewandowski has played for Chicago Fire since summer 2026, under head coach Gregg Berhalter. In a neat twist, his debut was delayed by a game against Vancouver: in July that match was postponed because of poor air quality caused by Canadian wildfires.
He remains captain of the Polish national team. This month he scored a hat-trick against Romania and missed the game against Bosnia and Herzegovina through suspension.
