After beating Djoković, Hurkacz faces world No. 277 Zhou Yi
On Sunday Hubert Hurkacz plays Zhou Yi in the third round of the ATP Masters 1000 event in Shanghai. His 21-year-old opponent is ranked 277th in the world.
Hurkacz is 29 and ranked 34th. Zhou Yi is 21 and has been as high as 217th in his career. Sunday's match will be their first meeting on tour.
A 150-minute win over Musetti
In Friday's second round Zhou Yi beat Lorenzo Musetti 7–6(7), 3–6, 7–6(1). The match lasted 150 minutes, and both sets he won were decided by tie-breaks.
Djoković on Hurkacz's serve
On the same day Hurkacz beat Novak Djoković 6–4, 6–3. It was his first win over the Serb in their 9th meeting. Djoković spoke about the Pole's serve, as quoted by WP SportoweFakty: “It is very hard to return his serve, it is almost impossible.” He added: “If you lose your serve, that is enough to lose the match.”
Hurkacz knows Shanghai well. He won the title here in 2023.
What is at stake
The start time of Sunday's match is due to be announced on Saturday afternoon. Polsat Sport says the match will be played “most likely in the afternoon, Warsaw time”.
According to sport1.pl, the winner of the third-round match will receive $105,720 and 100 ranking points. The loser will get $61,865 and 50 points.
