Hurkacz beats Zhou Yi 6–2, 3–6, 6–3 to reach the last 16 in Shanghai

Hurkacz won the first set 6–2, breaking serve in the fifth game and holding on comfortably. In the second set Zhou Yi raised his level. Trailing 0–30 on his own serve, he threw his racket, then won four points in a row, broke the Pole in the seventh game and took the set 6–3.

The deciding set

Hurkacz took a bathroom break before the third set. He saved two break points in the third game. In the eighth game Zhou led 30–0 on serve but lost four straight points. Hurkacz broke and soon served out the match.

Who is Zhou Yi

Zhou Yi is a 21-year-old from China, ranked 277th, who entered on a wild card. In Shanghai he knocked out Mattia Bellucci and Lorenzo Musetti. Hurkacz, ranked 34th, had beaten James Duckworth and Novak Djokovic in earlier rounds.

In the last 16 the Pole will play on Tuesday 13 October against the winner of Sunday's match between Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and Frances Tiafoe.
