Verstappen on pole in Singapore for the 50th time in his career; race at 2pm Polish time

Max Verstappen won Saturday's sprint and qualifying for the Singapore Grand Prix. The race at Marina Bay starts on Sunday at 2pm Polish time. George Russell will start from the back of the grid.

The first-ever Singapore sprint started about 30 minutes late because of rain. Verstappen won ahead of Lewis Hamilton (+2.591s) and Charles Leclerc (+16.871s). George Russell passed Verstappen at the start but crashed on the first lap. Near the end Lando Norris collided with Oscar Piastri.

Qualifying

Verstappen took pole with 1:31.373. Leclerc was 0.054s behind, Hamilton 0.123s and championship leader Kimi Antonelli 0.189s. It is the Dutchman's 50th career pole, but he has never won the Singapore Grand Prix. "I want to win tomorrow, not today," Verstappen said after the sprint. Russell qualified sixth but will start from the back after a power unit penalty.

Standings

After the sprint Antonelli leads with 325 points ahead of Russell (236), Hamilton (221), Leclerc (197) and Verstappen (196). The 62-lap race starts at 2pm Polish time and is live on Eleven Sports 1.
