Dollar at 3.90 zloty as the Polish currency weakens towards the 4-zloty mark
On Friday the NBP's average dollar rate was PLN 3.9022, 1.5% higher than on 30 September. The euro cost PLN 4.3775 and the Swiss franc PLN 4.6946.
According to the NBP average rates table of 9 October, the dollar cost PLN 3.9022, up 0.36% on the week and 1.5% since 30 September, when it was PLN 3.8449. The euro cost PLN 4.3775, the Swiss franc PLN 4.6946 and the pound PLN 5.1655.
Why the zloty is weakening
US monetary policy is lifting the dollar. The Fed raised rates to 3.75–4.00% on 16 September, its first hike since 2023, and the 10-year US Treasury yield is above 5%. The zloty is also weighed down by Moody's, which cut Poland's rating from A2 to A3 on 18 September.
"The psychological barrier of 4 zloty per dollar is within reach, as is 4.40 per euro," says Wojciech Kowalik of TOK FM, quoted by Money.pl. The dollar last cost more than PLN 4 in early 2025.
What's next
US September inflation is due on Wednesday at 14:30 Polish time. The forecast is 3.6%, up from 3.4% a month earlier.
